Daback to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Ugh! A day.
Started the day in Daback and headed back to Gondar for my flight to Addis Ababa. We started out at 7:30 since the military doesn’t upon the contested 20 kilometer stretch of road until 8 AM. It doesn’t stop the bandits from harassing you over that same stretch of road during the day however. Stopped five more times on the way out of Daback and I missed my 10:15 flight out of Gondar. I wasn’t thrilled about that nor about needing to rebook myself. But the delay did give me some time to read and surely things would go better once I got to Addis Ababa.
My 4:30 flight out of Gondar arrived in Addis Ababa on time at about 5:45 PM. Informed my guide that I was on the ground and would meet them outside in the waiting area. Messages were delivered but no reply. No problem, they are surely waiting outside for me. Alas, no. I was finally picked up at 7:30 PM and taken to what was almost certainly the worst hotel I’ve stayed at so far in Africa. My mood was definitely not improving. To be fair to the hotel, it did have hot water and that has been the exception rather than the rule so far on this trip. It also had a decent restaurant attached as well as a spa and Moroccan bath. I did take advantage of the former and would have been happy to use the later if I had gotten in earlier.
All around not a great day but it could have been worse. No pictures today.
