Chefchaouen, Morocco
No organized activities were planned for the day so I slept in until 7:30 and got off to a leisurely start. My tent was pitched on a slight incline so I fought gravity and a lack of friction a couple times during the night but still managed to get a great night sleep.
I had hoped to do a hike to the Akchour waterfall and God’s Bridge but the weather was forecast to be quite unpleasant in the afternoon. I opted instead to hang out in the old town in Chefchaouen (medina, kasbah, etc.) as well as visit the waterfall in town and the Spanish mosque. All things I saw in 2019 on an intrepid tour but it was fun to see again. To be fair, the waterfall in town is little more than a trickle and could have been skipped.
Around 1 PM I headed back to our campground above the city and prepared for the deluge. Sadly, the weather forecast was brutally on target and the rain started in earnest around 3 PM. I have quite a good tent with a rain fly that comes to about 2 inches of the ground and yet it rained hard enough that mud splashed 4-5 inches up the side of my tent. But the inside was dry as a bone which is better than some.
Some pictures of the old town are below (it is called the blue city for a reason).
